Architecture

Architectural Engineering Department of University of Kashan is active in two distinct areas of Architecture and Bionic Architecture Technology in undergraduate and graduate programs.

The undergraduate courses of Architectural Engineering are mostly theoretical-practical and includes various scientific, technical, and artistic fields. The projects for graduate degree in residential, commercial, and educational areas are defined by cultural, sociological, psychological, climatological, sustainable architecture, restoration building, and restoration of traditional and urban values approaches.

In graduate programs of Bionic Architecture Technology, most of the courses focus on the sciences related to architecture and biotechnology, and architectural engineering as well as executive techniques. With an emphasize on the principles and rules of nature as an inspirational source, the Bionic architecture engineering is one of the special and interdisciplinary programs that seek to find architectural solutions. Bionics is the art of using the knowledge of living systems in solving technical problems. The term is a combination of “biology” and “technique”. Bionic or the science of living organisms is now introduced as one of the world's three best science disciplines (the other two are Nanotechnology and IT).

Due to the growing trend of construction in the country, correctness of actions and the quality of developing civil engineering and architectural projects depends on the training of experts who can meet the requirements for design and execution of projects as desired. Obviously, this department tends to fulfill this requirement by educating architects familiar with artistic and design sciences and technical and executive skills.

Architecture is a science that depends completely on theoretical and practical knowledge simultaneously, therefore, the schedule includes various scientific, technical, executive, artistic, and cultural aspects. In addition to theoretical courses, during their studies, students learn practical courses through educational courses in workshops and studios. These features have enhanced the efficiency of architecture graduates in the job market. Also, due to the affinity and quality of the courses in the field with various construction projects, it has become one of the most exciting fields of engineering and art. The existence of rich and valuable historical sites and also active architecture workshops throughout the city has created a nurturing potential for architecture students; these capacities have led students to have a deep understanding in presenting their architectural projects and their thesis and provide more sustainable patterns alongside ingenuity and creativity.

Graduates of this field are able to collaborate in construction and architectural projects, architectural and urban engineering consulting companies as design engineer, executive engineer, or supervisor. They can also get employed in government agencies and institutions such as municipalities, cultural heritage and tourism offices, or housing and urban development foundations.

The architectural projects which has been defined in Architectural Engineering and Bionic Architecture Technology degrees so far and has been completed by the students and professors of architecture are as follows: architecture and energy, architecture and architectural engineering, architecture and nature, architecture and life sciences, intelligent architecture, sustainable architecture, contextual architecture, restoration and renovation of historical districts, architecture and psychology, architecture and sociology, and so on.

Architectural Documentation Center as well as Architectural Research Center are other features of the Architectural department. At the moment, the documentation center in addition to providing academic services to department students, also welcomes researchers from other universities.

Architecture is both the process and the product of planning, designing, and constructing buildings and other physical structures. Architectural works, in the material form of buildings, are often perceived as cultural symbols and as works of art. Historical civilizations are often identified with their surviving architectural achievements. Architecture has to do with planning and designing form, space and ambience to reflect functional, technical, social, environmental and aesthetic considerations. It requires the creative manipulation and coordination of materials and technology, and of light and shadow. Often, conflicting requirements must be resolved. The practice of Architecture also encompasses the pragmatic aspects of realizing buildings and structures, including scheduling, cost estimation and construction administration. Documentation produced by architects, typically drawings, plans and technical specifications, defines the structure and behavior of a building or other kind of system that is to be or has been constructed.
