Archaeology

Due to the archeological richness of Kashan, Department of Archeology has focused its scientific activities on this subject. In addition to educational classes, Department of Archeology, holding practical classes, has a pottery bank and an archeological workshop where the discoveries of the explorations of the groups of the department are kept in it.

The professors of are consisted of three specializations of pre-historic, historic, and Islamic era who provide the students of BA the privilege of specialized courses from the experts; this makes students of MA to have no problem in thesis selection and their interest in topics of various fields. On the other hand, the department has established collaborations with Faculty of Physics on interdisciplinary activities that will hopefully lead to the establishment of Archaeometry Laboratory to carry out specialized activities.

The Department of Archeology always holds an exploratory study annually and in addition to this, archeological excavations are done by the department’s professor who invite interested and top students to participate in these studies in order to get familiar with field studies along with education and gaining experience in fieldwork.

Regarding international cooperation, the department has multilateral activities to hold international seminars and conferences, educational workshops such as holding Summer School of Anthropology, establishing the archeological laboratory in cooperation with INFN Center, Italy and presenting papers and research findings with international professors.

After graduation, students of Archeology, in addition to education on theoretical information on archeological field activities, classification of pottery, and archeological data, can cooperate with archeological groups, tourism, and museums on various backgrounds.

Archaeology is the study of human activity in the past, primarily through the recovery and analysis of material culture. The archaeological record consists of artifacts, architecture, biofacts or ecofacts, and cultural landscapes. Archaeology can be considered both a social science and a branch of the humanities.The discipline involves surveying, excavation and eventually analysis of data collected to learn more about the past. In broad scope, archaeology relies on cross-disciplinary research. It draws upon anthropology, history, art history, classics, ethnology, geography, geology, linguistics, semiology, physics, information sciences, chemistry, statistics, paleoecology, paleontology, paleozoology, paleoethnobotany, and paleobotany.
